Pam Klaassen (ESO):

"Kinematics of Massive Star Formation"

Abstract. The processes involved in the formation of massive stars are not nearly as well understood as those involved in the formation of stars like the Sun. I will discuss the broad evolutionary sequence which has been developed for star formation, and the limits of how this sequence can be applied to the formation of more massive stars. I will present Submillimeter Array data with which we have been able to determine the molecular gas kinematics towards a number of massive star forming regions. From this data we determined the infall, outflow and rotation kinematics of the gas, and the status of these processes in the presence of HII regions will be discussed.
