Frank Bigiel:

"Scaling Relations between Gas and Star Formation in Galaxies"

Zusammenfassung. The relationship between gas and star formation plays an important role in many areas of astrophysics. Its non(evolution) with cosmic redshift informs our understanding of galaxy evolution, the small-scale efficiency of star formation is an important input to galaxy simulations and large scale scaling relations are an important benchmark for the output of these simulations. New multiwavelngth data sets from the UV to the radio allow to measure these scaling relations with unprecedented sensitivity, for a variety of spatial scales and for large numbers of galaxies near and far. In this talk I will briefly review recent progress and highlight some of the key open questions in this field.
