Das Institut für Theoretische Astrophysik ist zusammen mit dem Astronomischen Recheninstitut und der Landessternwarte Teil des Zentrums für Astronomie Heidelberg.
In der Albert-Ueberle-Straße ist das Institut in einer alten Villa untergebracht. Dort befinden sich die Abteilungen Sternentstehung von Prof. Klessen und Planetenentstehung von Prof. Dullemond.
