"Unveiling shapes - Shapelets for describing galaxy morphologies"

Zusammenfassung. I will give an overview of the shapelet method which allows a precise description of the shape of galaxies and stars. After that, I will present three fields of application: 1) Shear estimation in weak gravitational lensing. 2) Statistical investigation of galaxy morphologies. 3) Realistic simulations of optical observations.
