If you are interested in doing a Diplom or Masters project in my research field, just send me an email. Below are topics for which I am looking for candidates. Of course these projects are open for your own ideas and will be adjusted according to new research results.

Observable signatures of extragalactic jet feedback in high-redshift galaxies

Jets launched from active galactic nuclei are understood to be an integral part of the build-up and evolution of massive galaxies in the early Universe. Simulations suggest that the star formation in these galaxies may be strongly affected by the central black hole through jet activity ("jet feedback"). We aim to derive observable signatures from large simulations in attempt to confirm this scenario.

You will work on the newly available high-resolution simulation data, learn about the analysis and visualization of large-scale 3D data sets, examine the heating and cooling processes in the interstellar medium and compute synthetic emission maps ("images") in different spectral lines. These maps can be compared with existing or future observations and allow a critical review of this scenario. You should be interested in computational astrophysics; some programming will be required.
