"A positive, second order scheme for astrophysical gas dynamics"
Abstract. Simulations of astrophysical fluid dynamics are highly demanding for the numerical schemes. A crucial criterion is that the scheme should not predict physically meaningless states, i.e. negative mass densities or pressures. Often, important conservation properties are violated to ensure this, or the simulation simply breaks down when such a state occurs. We present a second order accurate and conservative scheme for the Euler equations that preserves the positivity of density and pressure, and extend the result to ideal magnetohydrodynamics.
