Jonathan Ramsey:

"Mechanisms for magnetically launching an outflow from a disc"

Abstract. It is now generally accepted that magnetic fields are required for launching and collimating outflows from astrophysical objects. Although several different mechanisms are proposed in the literature, the magneto-centrifugal wind model is arguably the best-known. In this talk, I will briefly review the magneto-centrifugal and magnetic tower models for outflows, and then discuss numerical simulations demonstrating that these two models are closely related.
