Über die Natur der Dicken Scheibe unserer Milchstraße

This thesis consideres different scenarios for the formation of the thick disk in our Milky Way. There are generally two families of creation hypotheses. The first group consideres the thick disk as separate entity produced in an early phase of the initial protogalactic collaps. The second set of models sees the thick disk as extension of the thin disk formed via some heating mechanism acting on the thin disk star population (and therefore formed somehow later and through successively phases).
Using Galactic globular clusters, I can derive constraints on different thick disk heating szenarios, which rule out all but one: heating by infalling (accreting) satellite galaxies.
