This is a compulsory Master's seminar (MVSem)
The seminar will proceed as follows:

  • At the beginning of the semester we distribute the topics
  • At the first appointment after the topic has been assigned, I explain some research techniques and discuss the horizon of expectations for the presentation and written summary.
  • You will receive a more or less current scientific article on which the presentation should be based.
  • One week before the presentation, you can give a test presentation.
  • Your presentation will be accompanied by a written summary
  • The presentation, the question and answer session and the paper will be assessed.
  • You are also expected to participate as an audience member by asking questions about the presentation - if no questions are asked, I will ask questions of the audience.

The seminar will cover plasma topics from various places of the universe. This includes for example:

  • Cosmic magnetic fields and their origin
  • Interstellar plasmas
  • Solar- and stellar winds
  • Accretion disks
  • Jets in Active Galactic nuclei
  • Pulsars and pulsar wind nebulae
  • (relativistic) shock fronts
